Overview

Nestled quietly on the second floor in the bustling Eco Botanic area of Johor Bahru, MISEYA RESTAURANT offers a genuine slice of Japanese dining far from the usual city noise. This cozy eatery shines with its focused dedication to traditional dishes, especially their signature okonomiyaki and homestyle fare, delivering flavors reminiscent of family kitchens in Japan.

Patrons enter a space that balances casual comfort with a subtle Japanese aesthetic, creating an inviting atmosphere that welcomes both intimate meals and small gatherings. Despite its modest size, the restaurant maintains a warm vibe, though advance reservations are advisable given its growing local following.

The culinary highlight centers on authentic preparations such as the pork shabu shabu udon and the layered Japanese pancakes — praised by many as a must-try. The Teppan selections, like the Mentai & Cheese Dashimaki, provide a rich umami punch, blending cod roe with creamy cheese in an omelette that exemplifies home-style richness. Meanwhile, rice bowls including the grilled eel and tempura varieties showcase a satisfying depth typical of hearty Japanese comfort food.

Diners should be aware that MISEYA RESTAURANT is a non-halal establishment, catering to those seeking traditional Japanese flavors unfiltered. The open kitchen setup adds a sensory layer to the dining experience; the scent of fresh okonomiyaki wafting through the air is almost part of the show. This authenticity, however, comes with a minor trade-off — occasional wait times and a slight oil aroma are part of the charm.

Service is delivered by a relatively new team still honing their craft. While some nuances such as tempura lightness and sashimi cuts have room for refinement, the overall authenticity and passion behind the dishes shine through. The restaurant thrives on loyalty from patrons who appreciate genuine flavors over polished mass appeal.

In summary, MISEYA RESTAURANT is a gem for those craving authentic Japanese cuisine in a relaxed yet carefully curated setting. It caters best to food enthusiasts who value traditional preparation and a cozy atmosphere over speed and limited variety. Hidden in Eco Botanic’s corner, it quietly invites visitors to savor Japan’s comfort food classics, one thoughtfully prepared dish at a time.

Hidden at the corner of Eco Botanic. Non-halal. Located at 1st floor. Nice ambiance. Food is affordable. Variety of food available. Be prepared to smell of oil as fresh okonomiyaki is made infront.

Located at the 2nd level. The food was great overall but the only 2 things that I wished they will improved is the tempura which I felt that it was abit hard and not light and fluffy. The sashimi cut was inconsistent (some were smaller pieces). Sashimi selections was limited. Salmon fried rice I felt that it was tasteless for my liking. The place is generally quite small so I suggest that you make a reservation.

A wonderful Japanese restaurant, specialised in okonomi and okonomiyaki, not only that, their homemade Japanese food are pretty nice and authentic. It's one of the rare gem hidden in the hustle and bustle of eco botanic. Rest assure, The Japanese owner will do the most cooking. Despite waiting time is slightly longer, it's worth the wait, as good things come to those who wait. #supportnicerestaurant

Food took awhile but it was decent Japanese fare, we had the pork Shabu udon and pork belly ramen which were really good. The place is nice and look like a typical family restaurant in Japan.
